Have you ever had to stop for a moment because things felt different, and you couldn’t explain why? In Anomaly by Jennifer Milne, Mirielle “Elle” Coleman is a young woman whose life always feels like it is changing in ways she can’t control. From childhood, her reality shifts right before her eyes, and there’s nothing she can do to stop it. She calls these experiences “Changes.” People, places, and even relationships seem to reset, causing her to keep starting over. As Elle gets older, these disruptions become too intense to ignore. They affect her family and her sense of who she is, and make her question what’s real. Through the years, there has been one consistent person in her life, even if that person is unaware of what is happening to her. Is Elle destined to keep living this way? Will that one connection always stay at the center of her world?

Once I started reading Anomaly by Jennifer Milne, I was completely pulled into Elle’s unusual world. The changing reality could have been confusing, but the writing is clear and easy to follow. The story balances emotional scenes, like a childhood experience with her parents, with more gripping ones, like when a “Change” occurs during an already tense situation. I appreciate how the relationships were written to show how important they are to her, even if some people don’t remember her. There’s a good mix of mystery, emotion, and bigger “what if” ideas that definitely had me thinking. I couldn’t put the book down until I finished it, and I think others will feel the same. Fans of character-driven science fiction with a touch of romance and suspense will likely enjoy this story.
