“Wagons West: Arizona!”, written by Dana Fuller Ross, is part of the 'Wagons West series' depicting life on the frontier across America. The Holt family has been lured west to the open lands and the freedom to move there. Toby Holt is trying to stake his claim in the frontier; however, there is someone who seeks to end his life as it is pointed out that he is just a man and a man can be killed by a bullet, although it may take more effort to kill him than it does to kill some other individuals. As tensions rise and lives intersect, many are fighting for their lives and their survival on the frontier.

This book brings the frontier alive and will transport the reader back in time to an earlier time period when America was being settled. This is the twenty-first book in the 'Wagons West series', but it is the first book I have read in the series; therefore, I have missed out a lot in the characters’ lives and the storyline. Due to this, I really appreciated the “extras” that were included at the beginning of the book, the family tree, little snippets about the characters and the map as they helped me to feel as if I knew a little bit about the family and the series. This being said, I did enjoy the book and it was a great story! Janessa Holt is one of my favorite characters in the book. She follows her heart and helps out the doctor even when others believe she should not be and is the cause of tensions between some families as she seeks to be her own person. I really enjoyed being taken back in time and living with the characters on the frontier and now I am interested to go back and read the first twenty books in the series!
