We Rise: The Velvet Warpath by Her Majesty Of Ink and Exit Wounds, the journey starts inside Velinwood Court, welcoming us into a fantasy kingdom shaped entirely by memory, lore, and the realm’s written files. The narrative centers on The Queen, a sovereign born from fire who’s working hard to restore her land after a terrible disaster while managing her past trauma with inner strength. She has a unique team helping her, including Velin, an architect who builds reality simply by writing things down from his Left-Hand Seat, and Bunny, a herald who logs official complaints from the side of the pages. Everything falls into danger when a stolen pen, a missing eaten page, and a strange stamp on The Queen’s hand threaten to shatter their careful record-keeping. Will The Queen be able to maintain her agency and protect her court from collapsing back into the ruin from which it grew?
Ashes. Ashes. We Rise is a compelling fantasy novel that explores survival, collective history, and a person’s right to choice. The plot is truly captivating because Velinwood Court’s landscape changes based on ledger entries and stamped symbols. I love how the tension builds by blending the realm’s official announcements with the cast’s quirky everyday moments, such as a playful feline trivia campaign and a shared hearthside pact. The character development is excellent, particularly the intense back-and-forth between the sovereign and her architect, which has us wondering who is actually pulling the strings. Her Majesty Of Ink and Exit Wounds balances profound themes like emotional healing and trauma with genuinely funny, absurd court interactions so you never feel worn out. It’s the perfect story for anyone who wants an imaginative read with multi-layered metaphors, creative concepts, and unique palace intrigue.
