Awakening Forever (The Forever Saga Book 1) by Jack Schaeffer is Jack’s story of his life. Graduating from college, Jack fears going home to his abusive family. Accepting an offer from Fred, one of his college friends, he moves to Chicago and takes up a job with Fred’s father. It’s not the most exciting job in the world and he only just makes ends meet. Then one day he gets a phone call that will change his life. Setting off for Denver to meet with a lawyer, Jack is about to learn where he came from and he is going to be given a legacy that he never dreamed of. But he needs to do one thing before he can rightfully claim his inheritance. He must learn to accept himself for who and what he is, and he must face up to a secret he has been keeping for years. Can he do it? Can he put his whole life on the line to have one chance at happiness, the one chance at the happy-ever-after he has always wanted?
Awakening Forever (The Forever Saga Book 1) by Jack Schaeffer is one of those books that you will read from start to finish in one hit. One warning without spoiling things – this story has a very strong gay theme; if this offends you, this isn’t the book for you. I found the characters in this story, particularly the main protagonist, to be very real. You might think that some of the story is just waffling, mundane details but it's more than that. This is Jack’s life as he lives it day by day and every detail in this book means something. This is about his journey to accept who he is, to accept his sexuality and learn to move forward with his life, without worrying about what others think. There are some scenes and lines of a sexual nature, but nothing that is over the top. In fact, it's all been done incredibly tastefully. You will find yourself rooting for Jack, hoping that he finds what he’s looking for. And, after that ending, I really want to read Book 2.
