Battle Scars Are Beautiful: From Victim to Victory by Rene Michele is a memoir that documents, with incredible clarity, the author’s journey from abuse to inner freedom and victory. The author has experienced abuse, been addicted, gotten pregnant as a teenager, and struggled with suicidal thoughts and self-destructive behaviors. In this book, she takes readers through that journey and allows them to plunge into the depths of her despair. But what is remarkable about this book is the light she shares with readers, her journey toward wholeness, hope, love, and strength.

This memoir doesn’t just tell a story. It is a book with a powerful, life-transforming message that we can heal no matter the hurt we have been through, that resilience and hope bring about personal transformation, and that we can choose to be positive than negative, that no matter how badly we have been treated, we still have the ultimate freedom to choose our response to the negative experience. It is raw; it is emotionally charged, and Rene connects with readers in the place where they are most vulnerable because she has been there herself.

Battle Scars Are Beautiful: From Victim to Victory explores the psychology of abuse and shows readers that victims can heal and can become instruments in the lives of others. Having lived a painful experience is one thing, but having the gift of writing about it with courage and honesty and in prose that is crisp and engaging takes another gift, and Rene Michele has it. Battle Scars Are Beautiful is filled with powerful insights about life and the wisdom to help readers through their own darkness.
