Author Biography

Eryn Flynn has always loved music, traveling, reading, and writing. Her computer is currently full with poems, as is her mind. She often travels to new places with her family, and it’s important to her to see different parts of the world. However, one of her favorite places will always be her home in Boston, Massachusetts, where she’s lived for nearly half of her fourteen years on Earth.
Eryn keeps busy by taking part in school plays, basketball, and soccer, and by studying for school. Her Christian religion is important to her, as is her family. She lives with her mother, father, and sister, who is also her best friend.
The project of Beyond the Waterfall was a four-year-long one, but Eryn completed her first dream by publishing it in eighth grade. Meanwhile, she also completed her second dream by having a poem published in the America Library of Poetry’s 2015 poetry collection, Eloquence and the 2016 poetry collection, Accomplished. She is excited to keep setting and completing more dreams in her life.

Like many 16-year-old girls, Kyla Marine is not sure how she fits in with the people around her. Also, like many girls that age, she has secrets, fears and insecurities as well. Kyla tells her story in Beyond the Waterfall by Eryn Flynn and shares plenty of excitement, adventure and some amazing revelations. Kyla lives on Planet Aquarius, a world based on abundant water. Instead of streets, transportation is by waterways and that is where Kyla first encounters the Waterkeeper. In the legends of the people, the planet is kept alive by the hard work of this Waterkeeper, who has remained hidden for over 3,000 years. In that earlier time, someone jealous of the Waterkeeper’s powers tried to kill him and, as Kyla discovers, the descendants are still trying to accomplish that particular family legacy. Becoming involved in the world of the Waterkeeper, Kyla learns the answers to many secrets about her life, including the power of forgiveness and trust. The question is whether she can help prevent the destruction of the Waterkeeper and the whole planet by using some of her new-found understanding.

Eryn Flynn has crafted an amazing story full of emotional depth as well as intrigue and action in Beyond the Waterfall. Although not religious, there is a profound spirituality that pervades the lessons Kyla learns as she comes to understand aspects of her life that had been hidden. The writing in the first person keeps you involved throughout the story, experiencing everything through Kyla’s perspective. In this way, some of her most important discoveries become yours as well! I can’t recommend Beyond the Waterfall highly enough for children, pre-teens, and anyone who enjoys a well written tale. Beautiful story full of wonderful insights and a profound sense of love and hope.
