Rich Higgins has worked in global logistics for over four decades, experiencing all aspects of supply chain logistics. Over the course of his career, he has faced numerous challenges, including ocean container price hikes, overpriced tariffs, volatile supply chains, and more. Along the way, he has also developed many important relationships with people who protected him and steered his career in the right direction. Higgins shares his career trajectory and tells how some of these mentors guided him in Teachers, Teams & Tugboats: Leadership Lessons from a Life in Global Logistics. His high school coach first taught him about teamwork and selflessness. A mid-level manager introduced him to computers. His best friend in the business world helped him out after he lost his license due to a DUI. A senior executive who recruited him for a toy retailer supported his family during a relocation.

Every successful person has a mentor or people behind them who offer them guidance and support when they need it the most. Rich Higgins honors those mentors in his life with this inspiring memoir. Teachers, Teams & Tugboats will resonate with anyone who has found support and guidance in superior leaders or mentors and has had their personal and professional lives transformed. Personally, I don't have much knowledge about supply chain logistics. Yet, I found Higgins' story very relatable because I have had a few "tugboats" who made an impact in my own life. With this book, Higgins lays out the importance of always having someone to look up to. I think young professionals will learn a lot about leadership and teamwork from this book. I highly recommend it.
