Sharon Stevenson has taken the paranormal/supernatural genre and tweaked it jauntily askew with “Blood Bound.” Twin demon tracker/vampire hunters, Sarah and Shaun Gallows are your typical close siblings who just happen to be descended from Fallen Angels. While out on a typical ‘job’ the twins run into another hunter like them, but there is something off about Melissa: she is beautiful, she haunts Shaun’s fantasies and may very well be Shaun’s soul mate! Did I mention she has psychotic tendencies and Shaun may have to kill her? Add in a few other twists and getting to the bottom of the story is an exciting adventure!
There is a touch of snark and attitude throughout this fast-paced and complex tale. The main characters are so very typical of siblings, especially twins, with a closeness and sixth sense about each other that definitely has its humorous moments! Their love lives are a mess, their shared home is a mess, they have various ‘issues,’ they complain, they are real, completely believable and I totally adored them. One is petite and mouthy while the other one is a huge, scary looking Teddy bear, well, a Teddy bear who could crush you with ease. The supporting characters are well-thought-out and filled in, the friends are quirky, and the villain is heinous, but even she could evoke my sympathy. The background descriptions are often frighteningly realistic, adding to the tension of the moment. Sharon Stevenson has a hit on her hands and has set a high bar for herself with “Blood Bound!”
