Book Of Proverbs: Proverbs For The Modern Day by Donna Louis is a commentary on the Old Testament Book of Proverbs. Louis doesn’t attempt to comment on every verse but makes observations on several verses from each of Proverbs' 31 chapters. She centers her comments around the ancient quest for wisdom. The author’s assertion is that reading, studying, and practicing the principles of Proverbs can help anyone facing issues in their life or who want more out of their lives. For example, she says when people pray they should ask for, among other benefits, excellent health, happiness, confidence, success, prosperity, etc. Notes at the book’s end list all of the verses she discusses as well as the source for the quotations she used. The author says this version has been updated from a previous one.

I enjoyed reading Book Of Proverbs: Proverbs For The Modern Day by Donna Louis. The author is knowledgeable about the message of Proverbs and clearly passionate about her topic. She doesn’t merely explain what the Bible verses mean; she applies them to practical, everyday situations and provides many examples of the points she’s making. Although the Book of Proverbs is one of the better-known Old Testament books, its wisdom is often overlooked. Much of Louis’ advice is specific to a certain situation yet, at the same time, much is general, meaning anyone in any situation can apply it to their lives. Although Louis' book is meant mainly for Christians, anyone can learn about what Proverbs teaches and how to apply its message by reading this book.
