Ewan MacArthur, Laird of Lochearn, raised his beautiful, fiery haired granddaughter, Ellen MacArthur to be practical. She is intelligent, taught and knows how to run a keep. His plan for her was to spend her life at Lochearn contentedly married to Donald MacNab. However, Gavin MacArthur wanted the keep for his son Balgair. He knew that without Ellen the people would not pledge their loyalty to his cruel son.

Knowing her life was endangered Ewan sent Ellen to King James for protection. Princess Margaret offered Ellen a place to stay, and her protection. After a year at court, Ellen returned home to find her grandfather and Donald both murdered at the hands of Balgair. When he tried to force himself on her, Ellen defended herself with her dirk. She fled Lochearn knowing she could never return. Laird of Duffdour, Duncan Armstrong, planned to marry for love. When he asked King James for a favor, the
king agreed but all favors come with a price. He was to marry Ellen, immediately. The couple grew closer as they came to know each other. Can they learn to love each other?

I have faith in Bertrice Small, I know she can't write a bad book! She never disappoints her fans. Once again she stirs the embers in our hearts bringing them to flame. The Border Lord's Bride is the second book in this series. The plot draws readers in and holds them captive through every word. Inside the pages of The Border Lord's Bride I found adventure, treachery, suspense, murder, love and a slew of diverse emotions. I could not put this book down and read it in one setting. Practical, beautiful, strong,
even tempered, and loving is the best way to describe Ellen. Her desires lie dormant waiting to be awakened. Duncan is the perfect man to stir her desires. He is gentle, patient, and loving. I could feel the connection between them from the beginning. Balgair is the perfect villain. His handsome face disfigured marking him for life. His hatred for Ellen grows and he is determined to extract his revenge.

MS Small has long been one of my favorite authors. She brings a fresh breath to historical romance.

It seems that we have yet another of the few authors that can weave romance and history together in such a ration which leaves you off feeling pleasantly educated as well as swept off of your feet. The original in my experience being Diana Gabaldon with her Outlander series.
Very interesting and not oftenly covered info about Tudor era, English/Scottish borders. We hear much in these novels about the worthy and lovely highlands, but this is the first I've read about the Lowlands and the border politics.
Exciting and brave heroins and engaging characters all around right down to James IV. Well done Miss Small, I keep reading.

The story was interesting. The language through out, at times, good have been different as I don't think they really used some of the termonolgy that was used in this book.

I bought about 9 various Beatrice Small books for my mom to read. She is an avid reader and fan of Beatrice's books. I can't speak about the book itself, but I am pleased with my ability to order all the books that she needed to complete out the series. She was elated to receiver her shipment of new books. No complaints!

This is again one of Small's great reads. This author tells a detailed story of this time in history with passion and wonderful story line. I couldn't put this book down. I can't wait for her next book.
