In Briana's Dreamy Discovery by Brent Stahlheber, a little girl learns that adventures happen after you fall asleep, in dreams. As the youngest in her family, Briana has the earliest bedtime. But she doesn’t want to go to bed because she’s convinced that everyone in her family has fun and exciting adventures after she has fallen asleep. Even though her mother tries to reassure Briana that she’s not missing anything, she has clear memories of adventures that happen without her. In one of these, her large, furry dog Brandi goes looking for her dog pack. One night, Briana stays awake so she can join in the nighttime events. At midnight, she goes first to her parents’ room, then her sister’s and her brother’s rooms, but all is quiet. Back in her own bed, she realizes that the adventures actually happen when she is asleep and dreaming.
Briana's Dreamy Discovery is a magical bedtime story that parents will also love, because kids will look forward to going to bed and falling asleep. The characters are based on Brent Stahlheber’s own family and experiences, including a dream about a little girl who had the same idea as Briana. The illustrations carry the story along with vivid images of the cozy home, the large furry dog, the family, and Butterscotch, the soft toy sabertooth tiger. They hint at all kinds of adventures with space travel, music, enchanted castles, and forests. We hope that all those stories will be written down for kids to enjoy.
