K.J. Devoir’s Brutal Intentions: Kings of The Order Collection comprises three books in A Dark Mafia Paranormal Shifter Romance Series that are full of intense suspense. Shaw MacRath was tasked to meet heiress Cherish Lorey as part of an assignment. However, he found that his initial impression of Cherish being a socialite was mistaken. After taking her to see her inheritance, her old family home, Shaw revealed her stepfather’s nefarious plans. While alone, Cherish was stunned when Shaw kissed her, only to break it off. When Cherish arrived home, she read a threatening text message from an unknown person. After tracing the number, Shaw learned that Cherish was under threat from The Crown. Cherish encountered a vampire, escaped in terror, and took refuge with her ex-boyfriend. However, Shaw knew that the danger to Cherish had just multiplied when he learned of her family history.
K.J. Devoir used the alternating views of Cherish and Shaw to build tension between them. Shaw’s disregard for answering questions was frustrating. I understood Cherish’s anger toward him because he offered no explanations and it was left to each of the supporting characters to provide the revelations. The vivid details of each role-player’s personality gave depth to a fantasy story that spanned three novels. The abrupt conclusion of each book kept me hanging on until the very end. It divided the transitioning views into individual chapters, making it easy to follow the timeline of events. The knowledge of a vampire coup and Cherish’s desire for more control over her life made the story unpredictable. Readers who enjoy fantasy shifter romances will enjoy Brutal Intentions.
