Rachael Harvey was no stranger to crushed dreams. Being a college dropout meant fewer job opportunities, although she had to pay rent and clear her student loans. Her love life fared no better, either. Her brother’s best friend, Max Dawson, was oblivious to her ginormous crush. Granted, they did kiss once on a dare under the mistletoe, but Rachael would give anything to forget the ensuing humiliation. Eight years later, following the yearly tradition, the Harveys and the Dawsons gather in their cabin to celebrate Christmas. Only everything feels awkward this year. Is that because Rachael still cannot get over Max’s charm? How can Max explain his newfound feelings that are not quite brotherly? Find out in Cabin Crush by Kasey Stockton.

I loved the chemistry between the protagonists. Stockton’s use of two POVs gave us insights into both Rachael’s and Max’s thoughts, and we could not help but get involved in their silly banters and smoldering feelings. As both were determined to keep the mutual affection safely hidden, it was a delight to see how they finally came to terms with their feelings. Stockton threw into the mix a cute puppy and some Christmas miracle, and the story turned into something magical. I loved how the characters followed a fulfilling arc, with Rachael finding a way out of her self-imposed rut. Max’s unwavering support made her recognize and utilize her strengths. Similarly, Max overcame his dilemma and learned to express his emotions. I recommend Cabin Crush to anyone who loves a warm, fuzzy, Christmas-themed romance.
