In Captive by Michael Garrett, David Stetson witnesses a tragic accident on a cold, wintry night and risks his own life to save Elise Farmington. Due to road conditions and freezing temperatures, he takes her to his nearby home to assess her injuries and care for her until he can get help. When she wakes, she assumes the worst and is horrified, wondering why she has been kidnapped. Over the next few days, David and Elise struggle to coexist. She is injured and can’t escape; if she did, she would probably freeze to death before finding help. He finds he is attracted to her and wants her to stay, even when communication is restored. Will David’s good deed become the crime Elise has feared? As David initiates a new plan, unexpected complications threaten to destroy his life. Will Elise see her loved ones again? Will David find the confidence and peace he has sought? When fantasy becomes a reality, can it ever last, and is it ever what you thought it would be?
Captive by Michael Garrett is a riveting story about a young man whose life is turned upside down when his temptation turns a good deed on end. Garrett delivers a compelling and thought-provoking Christian thriller, mystery, and drama that draws you in from page one. Through all the twists and turns, Garrett presents a well-thought-out, well-written, and interesting story whose characters are clear and vulnerable during chaotic and out-of-control situations. The story is plausible, tender, and frightening at the same time. The author knows how to develop and cultivate his characters while making them relatable and sympathetic to his readers. Captive is hard to put down and will hold your attention throughout. It is well worth the read. I highly recommend this clever and riveting book.
