Carol the Carrot Dreams of Her Future by Chelsea Chong Kim is a well-written children’s book that inspires them to dream big and create their own future. After reading the project from her teacher, Carol the carrot feels stuck and does not know what she wants to be when she grows up. However, while she is asleep, Carol finds herself in Dreamland with a Carrot Knight. In Dreamland, she meets other fruits and vegetables. Each one she encounters gives her a star, including Strawberry, a surgeon; Banana, a content creator; Blueberry, a software engineer; and others. These stars, along with the gold tiara from the Carrot Knight, form a puzzle. Carol needs to unlock the power of her dreams and discover her path to self-discovery.
I loved that the author kept the story simple by using well-developed characters in the form of fruits and vegetables, which children can easily relate to without getting confused. Beyond the impactful lesson on identity and self-discovery, children will also learn to differentiate between colors and identify various fruits and vegetables. I loved the colorful illustrations by Michelle Simpson, which make the story more engaging for young readers. The writing is concise, well-paced, organized, and easy for kids to comprehend. This book explores themes such as careers, self-discovery, creativity, and more. It would be perfect for children’s bedtime reading. I recommend Carol the Carrot Dreams of Her Future by Chelsea Chong Kim to all children, their teachers, and adults who enjoy children’s books.
