Cecily in the City is a work of fiction in the coming-of-age, slice-of-life, and interpersonal drama subgenres, and forms the third novel in The Cecily Taylor Series of books. The work is best suited to the mature end of the young adult age range, can also be enjoyed by adult readers, and contains no explicit content. Penned by author Krysten Lindsay Hager, the story follows our titular character Cecily into her next adventure, wherein she explores city living as her acting career begins to take off. Life with her pop star boyfriend, Andrew Holiday, seems to be going well until the opportunity to star in a video of a different pop sensation causes a dramatic media storm, threatening everything she’s worked for.

Author Krysten Lindsay Hager offers plenty of dramatic highs and lows in this exciting contemporary work, which proves that fame isn’t everything if you haven’t got the ones you love and your own sense of self in line first. It was really emotive and enjoyable to see Cecily discovering these different sides of herself as she’s tested by the media scrutiny and the threat of rumor and scandal, and it’s easy to see New Adult readers getting into her drama and waiting with bated breath to see what happens next. I also found the character work to be exceptional, with real attention paid to the unique dialogue and way of speaking that each major character has, and a lot of plot delivered naturally via dialogue to keep the novel’s pace speedy and enjoyable. Overall, Cecily in the City is a recommended read for fans of the series so far, and the series in general, and it is a great adventure for YA, NA, and coming-of-age drama fans alike.

Cecily in the City by Krysten Lindsay Hager is the third book in the Cecily Taylor Series. Cecily and her boyfriend Andrew went through a rough patch when she suspected him of cheating on her. They were back together, but things between them remained strained. Santos, a fashion designer, saw photos of Cecily and wanted to meet her. Santos wanted Cecily to model for him, and the photos would help Cecily with her modeling portfolio. Cecily’s life could not get any better, and she was enjoying city life as her acting career took off. Being close to Andrew helped with their relationship until Cecily was featured in a video with a pop star. The media attention caused friction between Cecily and Andrew, but all she wanted was to further her career and be with Andrew.

Cecily in the City is a novel that explores coming-of-age and romance themes. Krysten Lindsay Hager planned and executed an intriguing and exciting plot. It was fast-paced and interesting to read. There was never a dull moment, and I just kept turning the pages. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting to know what would happen next. The characters were brilliant and authentic. I could relate to them, and they could be anyone I know. My favorite character was Cecily. She learned about setting boundaries to avoid anxiety by doing what she felt was right for her. The story was wonderfully written, featuring love and sacrifice. The story far exceeded my expectations, and the ending was fitting.
