It is 2040. Political tensions continue to soar and plague the world as superpowers in the East and Europe scheme for more territory across international borders. Taiwan is now under Chinese rule, and Russia is reaching far into Europe, orchestrating more invasions. Pakistan has launched a nuclear war in space against India, sparking a coup in the latter and leaving its satellite technology in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and power grids damaged. The effects of the attack ripple throughout the world, causing a blackout in communication systems and the collapse of financial institutions. Jackie Jill, the Vice President of the US, has her eyes set on the top seat in the White House in the upcoming elections, and may have a plan to fix the current plight. But is she ready for what Russia has in store for the US? Find out in Chaos from the Cosmos: Earth First, Book 1 by Pål A. Hvistendahl.

Set in the near future, Hvistendahl teases the idea of a possible collapse of all communication systems engineered by escalating political tensions. Through the characters, the story explores themes of power, war, sexism, cyber warfare, intelligence, space domination, ethics, diplomacy, and much more. Jackie Jill embodies political opportunism. Like the typical politician of the real world, she always finds an angle in every situation to advocate for her selfish agenda. The problems she faces in power reveal the weight of decision-making that world leaders deal with, raising questions about the longevity, human legacy, cost, and dignity of their choices. It is appalling how some leaders are willing to shed innocent blood in their quests for fleeting gains. Lovers of sci-fi techno thrillers blended with political intrigue will find Chaos from the Cosmos by Pål A. Hvistendahl an enthralling read.
