Never stop believing in yourself, and always keep your dreams alive. These two wise statements are fleshed out in the children’s picture book Chasing New Yolk by Mike Talplacido. A small chick, Ashley Orpington, dreamed of becoming a well-known singer in New Yolk. As anyone with great dreams can tell you, dreams are always met with opposition. Ashley was bullied by three other chicks who called her names. The main bully, Penelope, sabotaged Ashley, trying to keep her from competing in a singing contest. Your child will enjoy reading this exciting story, which includes drama and success. When a hawk attacks Penelope, Ashley does the right thing and helps free Penelope. Does Ashley find fame in New Yolk, or does she fall victim to those trying to destroy her dreams?
Life lessons can be hard to learn and easy to ignore. However, when a wonderful children’s story is woven around those lessons, children learn while having fun. Chasing New Yolk by Mike Talplacido is such a book. This well-written children’s picture book demonstrates the lessons of believing in yourself, never giving up, and doing the right thing. Jan Makasiar does a masterful job of illustrating this fun little story. Parents must take the time to teach their children using aids like this book. It is a great way to teach your child to believe in themselves, no matter what the naysayers say. It is also important to teach them that tomorrow is built on our dreams of today. Ashley's surprising rescue of her bully, Penelope, teaches forgiveness and letting go of grudges. I highly recommend this book for its fun and educational factors.
