Chasing Permanence by Steven N. Adjei explores why some companies survive and flourish even while many around them fail. It investigates the decline of High Street businesses across the UK, including rising costs, online shopping, changes in the way people shop, and the additional pressure this puts on many ethnic minority-owned businesses. Adjei's research reveals that a company's long-term success is not only determined by external challenges, but also by internal factors, such as the attitudes that leaders bring, the decisions they make, and the systems they implement. His book explains how leaders who plan well, remain flexible, and work with their community can keep their business relevant and valuable to the people around them.
I enjoyed reading Steven N. Adjei's Chasing Permanence. The book is clearly organized (like a well-written research paper), and the information is easy to follow. It's like learning from someone who has spent years watching companies succeed and fail and who genuinely wants to help business owners navigate the challenges they face. I respect how the author doesn’t just blame the economy or act as if leaders can “positivity” their way through all business-related obstacles. Instead, he treats business survival as something practical and learnable. His focus on mindset made sense, not just in a motivational way, but in a “this is how people stay consistent, make decisions, and build teams that last” way. Overall, the book gave me a clear idea of how daily leadership habits and flexible business planning can make a real difference, even in challenging or competitive markets.
