In Christmas Kitten Caper by Max Parrott, private detective Angela Atkinson and her lovable Border Collie, Ruff, are on another case. When Angela and Ruff go to the farm where their family always chooses their annual Christmas tree, they discover Nelson Hemlock, the owner of Pines and Needles Christmas Tree Farm, has been murdered. At the same time in town, antiques belonging to the original families who settled Hummings Hollow are being stolen, including an heirloom that has been in Nelson’s family for generations. When questioning Nelson’s estranged family members, Angela discovers they can’t find Nelson’s will, and a rumor of a treasure map has the Hemlock family on edge. Is it possible that there is a connection between the murder, the missing items, and the will? Can Ruff and his newfound kitten friends help unravel the mystery surrounding Nelson’s death?
A murder, a missing will, and a hidden treasure have a detective and her dog searching for the culprit in this intriguing mystery novel. Christmas Kitten Caper by Max Parrott is the tenth book in the delightful Ruff McPaw cozy mystery series. It is an engaging story with a charming backdrop, and likable characters, including a lovable dog and adorable kittens. This story is a good example of what a cozy mystery should be. Although this is one book in a series, it reads fairly well as a standalone novel. Characters from previous stories are introduced naturally, and they do not leave the reader confused or questioning their relationships with the protagonist. For those readers who enjoy snuggling up on a wintry day with a good cozy mystery, this story is a pleasant way to spend a cold and dreary day.
