Christopher Dragon Meets the New World: The Tales of Christopher Dragon, Book 1 is a children's book written by Mary Kagan Draper and illustrated by Patti Brassard Jefferson. Christopher Dragon lived in the olden days when there were knights and kings and castles. He has been magically transported to modern times, and there's a lot of new things for him to explore: cars, stores, computers and technology. Christopher finds a nice cabin in the woods near a lake where he can bathe. During the day, he works in a school library where he reads books to kids and tells them about his fantastic adventures from the past.
Mary Kagan Draper's children's book, Christopher Dragon Meets the New World: The Tales of Christopher Dragon, Book 1, had me smiling from the very first page. Jefferson's illustrations are marvelous and follow the story beautifully. Christopher is brightly colored with green and red trim, and his purple wings are a delight. He also wears glasses which is a fabulous touch for children who wear glasses. I really liked the way Draper brought Christopher into modern times. She builds a contrast between that castle in the beginning and all the things he has to learn about, including fast food and cellphones. Her verses are entertaining and funny, and the matching of vocabulary with pictures will have children easily expanding their word repertoire as they have fun. Christopher Dragon Meets the New World: The Tales of Christopher Dragon, Book 1 will have children and adults alike enjoying the dragon's adventures. It's highly recommended.
