Chunky Sugars by Sara Barnard is a delightful story about a mamma and baby bear. The concept of introducing numbers up to 5 is beautifully done. The pictures are also colorful and attractive and it breathes life into the characters.
It's an ideal children's story book - lots of colorful pictures, simple text and a charming concept. I liked the texture of the story and the pictures. It's important that children's story books have excellent pictures because that is the best way of attracting kids to reading. The illustrations in this book do just that. The characters are made even more appealing and credit should be given to the illustrator who has interpreted the characters well. The other illustrations also help the children learn new things and new words, and develop their vocabulary.
Chunky Sugars, apart from teaching to count up to 5, also touches on many small things that are lovable and at times overlooked by parents. The presence of the bumble bee in all the illustrations is something that caught my attention. It added more depth to the pictures and the scenes.
The book has many expressions of love and caring. I always believe that children's story books should be more visual so that it is etched in the child's mind for a longer time. The story is adorable, perfect to be read out to a child. Every school library should have this book. It's a good way of introducing the kids to books and also to the library.
