Clanless by Catherine Witzaney continues the epic saga of the Winged Folk with soaring stakes and heart-stirring heroism. Asher Songfeather, a sprite who seeks redemption by freeing a captive Dragonfly girl, finds her sister aligned with the rebel leader Ryn, whose escalating plans threaten full-blown civil war. Meanwhile, Siobhan Eirwensa, a Halfwing burdened by a painful past, is determined to rescue her father from the brutal Arena. As alliances shift and loyalties are tested, both Asher and Siobhan must confront the deeper truths about rebellion, unity, and their place in a divided world. When a hidden danger rises beneath the conflict, they realize that the greatest threat may come from within. With vibrant worldbuilding and emotional depth, Clanless invites young readers into a realm where courage means forging your own path, even when you have no wings to guide you.

Author Catherine Witzaney has a knack for making every detail of her fantasy world feel real and lived in. The challenges of the plot become important moments of emotional growth for the dual protagonists, with a compelling story that captivates from the first page. I couldn’t decide which half of this interwoven story I was more invested in, and the author does a great job of pacing the converging plotlines so that they inform and enrich one another as the stakes combine for even higher danger levels. This is hard to do in a second-in-series when readers have already been introduced to the wonder of the worldbuilding. Witzaney does a splendid job of adding new, rich, and imaginative layers to a world filled with unforgettable characters, old and new. Ultimately, it’s the attachment to characters that will keep young and young-at-heart readers hooked. The dialogue and up-close narration explore identity, redemption, and trust in ways that ensure both Asher and Siobhan will find their rightful place in readers’ hearts. Overall, I highly recommend Clanless and the series so far as a beautifully written tale of bravery and belonging that will enchant fans of ethereal fantasy drama.
