Fifteen-year-old Livia Pierce, alias Agent V or Lara Anderson, had spent most of her life working as a spy for an agency called the Age of Spies, which had taken her in at the age of five. She had been on many assignments, all on her own. When her boss sends her on a new assignment, paired up with Xavier Adler, alias Agent X or Axel Jones, she immediately concludes it will be the worst mission she has ever been on. The pair is supposed to track down a child kidnapper now in New York, and help apprehend him. However, unknown to Livia, she is about to be thrust on a journey of shocking discoveries, mortal danger, and unexpected reunions involving her long-lost family. Find out how it all goes down in Code Red by Audrey Ortiz and Camila Santos.
Lovers of young adult espionage thrillers blended with action, adventure, and suspense will find Code Red by Audrey Ortiz and Camila Santos an enthralling read. Through vivid imagery and dynamic prose, alternating moments of reflection, tension, and bursts of action, I was introduced to a fascinating cast. As I followed Livia and Xander clashing with and narrowly escaping danger on the streets of New York, I was treated to plot twists I never saw coming. I also watched them grow on the pages. Livia, used to being stoic and independent, gradually displays compassion as the story unfolds. She illustrates the importance of family love and the impact of its lack. The lively conversations, accompanied by sarcasm, cynicism, and banter, revealed the cast’s emotions and personalities. There are secrets, daring rescues, shootouts, car chases, and more in this short read.
