In Come the Blood Moon Night by M. Flagg, Chris Forbes survives a supernatural battle in New York and returns to civilian life with his partner, Paige Virelli, believing the danger has passed. Instead, a wound over his heart begins to draw him toward the Second Realm, a hidden world whose rulers track his movements and treat his bloodline as property. As unexplained silver chests appear, trusted allies vanish, and violence spreads from Manhattan to the United Kingdom, Chris learns that ancient arrangements still govern modern lives. Paige becomes entangled in the same forces through her work at a Georgian clinic, with attention she never sought. While Guardians, vampires, and sorcerers maneuver around an approaching Blood Moon, Chris is forced to leave the life he built with Paige and step into a role shaped long before his birth, with consequences that reach across realms.
M. Flagg’s Come the Blood Moon Night is a wonderfully modern twist to the traditional warlock sagas, and Flagg does a brilliant job of linking Manhattan life to an inherited system of magic and obligation. This is a supernatural tale that operates through regulated portals, lunar amplification, and material conduits, most notably those Second Realm coins. Chris is a worthy main character defined by his own power, ascending mountains, and forging talismans from silver threads to stabilize his capabilities on his own terms. I found Martine to be one of the more fascinating ancillary characters, ready to use forbidden spells and accepting the physical cost of actions. The landscapes are depicted on a grand scale, the standout being a palace cloaked until the Blood Moon forces open its doors to a gathering of realm inhabitants carrying lanterns. Overall, this well-written and totally immersive sixth book of the Champion Chronicles will delight series regulars. Very highly recommended.
