In Confessions of a Closeted Clairvoyant, Kim S. Bantle recounts a life in which intuition arrives before explanation. Growing up in Larchmont, New York, in a large Catholic family, she learned early to keep some experiences private. College brings powerful dreams, followed by a career in television where instinct sometimes enters decisions she cannot explain through experience alone. Motherhood gives those abilities a new importance as her children begin encountering the world in ways that make her reconsider what she has spent years keeping private. Then, her son, Jackson, starts showing signs of sensitivity resembling her own. Looking back across decades of experiences, she begins to understand how much clairvoyance has shaped her life, eventually moving to the decision to acknowledge publicly the part of herself she once kept private.
Kim S. Bantle’s Confessions of a Closeted Clairvoyant is an exceptional memoir, and the author writes about clairvoyance with such openness that the experiences feel like part of family life. I loved how naturally she connects her own abilities to the generations before her, making inheritance an important part of how she understands herself. Her mother eventually admits that her great-grandmother read tea leaves, a detail that places her experiences within a family story. I was especially drawn to the way she writes about motherhood, where her own history lets her meet Jackson’s intuition with understanding. When her nine-year-old son becomes certain that a tsunami will strike Asia, she listens seriously to what he tells her, recognizing the certainty behind what he is describing. Well-written and heartfelt, readers who enjoy memoirs about clairvoyance will adore this.
