In Contract On Time, Marcia A. Oster sets the scene for an unconventional romance. Katherine lives with her father on a ranch in Virginia. However, he returns from vacation with a new wife and her three children. After suffering from a beating, Katherine’s brother, Devin, heads in from Texas to help her. Katherine moves in with Devin and settles in nicely, cooking meals and cleaning his home. She offers to help Mr. Dailey and his son Kyle with their home when her father’s servants arrive at Devin’s home. One evening, Blake appears and immediately her childhood crush resurfaces. Blake and Katherine intend to marry, but many people are angered by their romance. Their love may cost them more than they bargained for.

Marcia A. Oster kept the plot of this romance unpredictable from the outset. Katherine was kind-hearted but naïve at the start of the story. The vivid depiction of how she progresses emotionally and physically is well-developed. Blake’s background and friends are not average. I liked the way Katherine seemed to have full faith in Blake even when she was facing uncertainty. I automatically felt disgusted with the wives that both her and Blake’s father decided to introduce. Patience is a virtue, but I would have to be hard-pressed to put up with these in-laws. This story was written with plenty of detail and a fast pace, and I could not put the book down. I would recommend Contract On Time to readers who like an action-filled story with romance as a cover. There is never a dull moment in this book.
