Cooking with Adriana and Jim is a cookbook by Adriana Liberty. Both Jim and Adriana are owners of a Bed and Breakfast nestled in the mountains of Los Padres National Forest in California. Since they both have Italian roots, a portion of the recipes reflect their heritage, like the Frittata and Breakfast Lasagna. Many of the dishes' origins grew from suggestions by international friends and guests. Headings like Main Dishes, Sides, and Something Sweet organize the book into sections. An accompanying introduction by the author for each recipe adds an opinion or suggestion. At the bottom of each page, Adriana has included Tips on how to improve the dishes and Trades, which offer optional ingredients.
Cooking with Adriana and Jim by Adriana Liberty is not only an entertaining read, but also an instructional cookbook. First, it is a feast for the eyes, since accompanying each recipe, a colorful photo of the finished project jumps off the page! Second, I was motivated to try a few of the recipes because of the blurbs about their origin or their success at the B&B. I did not feel intimidated when making the Frittata or Limoncello Poppyseed Cake because the directions were easy to follow, and the ingredients were easy to locate. My family's applause over my creations encouraged me to try another recipe from the collection. Although most of them are not complicated, many are unique, like Hocus Pocus Balls and Eggnog Cake, which I plan on making next. Adriana has curated and shared a collection of tempting delectables by mixing traditional ingredients with innovative techniques. How can you not indulge?
