AmeriCANS Who Made America! by Richard V. Battle describes how 43 remarkable individuals throughout the 1900s contributed to shaping the United States as it became a world power. Battle breaks his work down into three sections where he examines individuals and how their service to the nation positively impacted American history. The first section, The Patriots, touches upon military and entertainment heroes. The second section, The Leaders, addresses prominent political figures and others who exemplified leadership in their respective fields. The Innovators is the third section that honors some of the biggest names and trailblazers in business and industry and various other disciplines. Battle frames them against the context of the events and challenges that defined the 20th century, like the two World Wars, the Great Depression, and the Space Race. He challenges readers to look back and understand what these people did and their sacrifices and hard work to provide the liberties being enjoyed by the American people.
