Travis L. Salisbury and Janet C. Smyth continue their series Counterstrike: Heaven Sent with Book 2, The Bloodhounds Appear. Kate and Drew were sharing a quiet morning when Al burst into their penthouse. The press was swarming around the hotel. Drew escorted Kate to their car when they discovered that her location had been compromised. Someone had pushed the driver's seat all the way forward, and when she sat on it Kate wondered who had done it. Just as she was about to adjust the seat, Drew told her to stop. Al rushed to call the bomb squad and Kate spent the next thirty minutes trying not to move. After thwarting the assassination attempt, Kate was not prepared for Drew to move her to his older sister’s home. Meanwhile, Section Six was working around the clock to find Klaus Vogle.
Travis L. Salisbury and Janet C. Smyth were creative with the section and chapter names in this edition. Kate’s constant mental turmoil is fully revealed when she questions Drew’s actions. Allie and Kate have several discussions and the revelations that Allie provided added to my understanding of Drew’s intensity. However, Drew's flaws made him more relatable when Allie brought them to light. The plot is intricate, with mysterious clues included in vivid detail. The members of Section Six have distinct personalities that match their roles. I enjoyed the way that the supporting characters built interesting interactions between Kate and Drew. The suspense builds as Klaus Vogle’s Third Wave becomes more active. Every unpredictable twist kept me engaged, as the end goal seemed just out of reach. The prayers and faith of Drew and Kate show their unshakable belief that God would ensure their success. I am eager to read the sequel because the end left me hanging. Readers who enjoy counter-terrorism stories with true-to-life characters will find The Bloodhounds Appear appealing.
