Crying Woman Bridge by Vickie Britton and Loretta Jackson is the 6th book in the High Country Mystery Series. Each in the series is a stand-alone story. In a crime that mirrors the haunting legend of Mirabella, a ‘crying woman’ whose story is a variation of the legend of La Llorona, a babe goes missing and the distraught mother claims a ghost has stolen him away. Despite roadblock after roadblock, Sheriff McQuede doggedly pursues the truth, not believing that a legend has come to life. The trail leads him along many twists and turns, bringing the sheriff into contact with a slew of interesting characters, from Jim Royce, a local film star, to Vet, a quirky worker at the same diner where the mother works.

I found the story to be fast-paced and engaging for the most part. I love crime novels and legends so this was double fun. I wasn't a huge fan of the rambling thread of McQuede brooding over Loris. It seemed quite out of character for him, and out of place in the story itself. The creepy looking cover is what attracted my attention and prompted me to check the story out. If you like crime thrillers woven with legend, you're sure to enjoy Britton and Jackson’s Crying Woman Bridge.
