Immerse yourself in fun-filled adventures in the small valley town of The Low Down. Dee Nichols's Curtis and Fergus and the Sleuth of the New-New follows a cast of lively characters trying to navigate the unexpected challenges of everyday life. Life hasn't been the same for the Scaredy Bears -- Curtis and Fergus -- ever since the beautiful Cherokee woman named Prudence left the Quarry Far. Fergus is nervous and scared all the time. Upon encountering the Canadian goose, Pierre Over There, Fergus wishes to fly like him. Then there are the fun-loving pair of Mexican hares, Alejandro and Enrique, while Marmalade prefers to stack things on top of each other. With each new adventure, these friends learn to help each other in their times of need.
Whimsical and full of heart and charm, Curtis and Fergus and the Sleuth of the New-New is the perfect bedtime book for parents to read to their kids. Using free verse, Dee Nichols has built an immersive world filled with adorable characters, each more idiosyncratic than the last. The book features more of a series of interrelated adventure tales than a singular linear narrative. The narration is almost lyrical. Young readers are going to love these characters with eccentricities of their own. They are likable and charm their way into your heart within a few pages. In between the chapters, the author includes interludes that offer moral lessons about friendship, showing how one can be a good friend by listening to other people's problems. If you're a young fan of adventure tales, do not miss out on this!
