Jessica Lauryn’s Dangerous Proposition introduces Julia Dyson’s discovery of her father’s abduction. Tucker Dyson worked late often, and Julia had suspected that he was hiding something from her. When she finds his office ransacked, blood, and his cell phone still warm from use, Julia knows she has to find her father. When she checks his cell phone, she believes Dr. Colin Westwood may be the reason for Tucker’s disappearance. Julia gains access to Colin’s home, but Colin offers to help her only as long as she stays with him throughout the investigation. Julia concedes, but she felt that Colin may have an ulterior motive. Still suspicious of Colin, Julia follows him when he leaves. She runs into Griffin, who tells Julia he knows where Tucker is but does not want Colin involved. Why is Colin a threat to Griffin? Why was Tucker taken?
The dynamics of Dangerous Proposition were a major attraction for me. Jessica Lauryn created Julia’s fierce determination as a reason for Colin’s attraction. The polar opposites of each other, Julia was family-oriented while something had estranged Colin from his father. I found Colin selfish and arrogant, which coincided with Julia’s opinion. Connecting with her character was second nature to me. Unlike Julia, I think Griffin would send up a red flag to me. I also would want to know why Colin wanted to find Tucker, and what his dealings were with him. Above all, why did she not contact authorities to start with? The element of suspense and danger intensifies every day for Julia, and her naivety was astounding. There is a slow burn romantic element intertwined with the mystery. The end left my curiosity raised, and I want to read the sequel. Despite some issues being unresolved, this is a standalone story. I recommend Dangerous Proposition to readers who fancy crime stories with a lot of action and adversarial conflicts between two partners.
