"Darkened Hollows" takes readers on a romp through a coal mine as well as the hills and hollows of WV. This book takes off right where "Darkened Hills" left off. There is plenty going on in the tiny town of Melas. Something is killing and draining the blood of the local livestock, and the local police can't figure it out. Meanwhile a local mining company has decided to reopen the Runner's Ridge mine, and when a group of miners get trapped they quickly learn that something evil is lurking in the mine shafts! It turns out that a bloodthirsty vampire had hired a man to dump his victims in the mine shaft. The fact is that the victims weren't dead, but instead they have been transformed, and they are thirsty for blood! Will the miners make it out alive? What evils are lurking in the tiny town of Melas, and can the local authorities figure it out before they become victims themselves?
I love a good vampire story and this series delivers in spades! The vampires in this book are dark evil beings that are scary bad! The plot moves along at break-neck speed, and I found myself riveted to this book to see where the author would take me. From the underground mines to an insane asylum action abounds and I couldn't help but fear if perhaps this time evil would triumph over good! As the story unfolds we learn what happens to some of the characters from the previous book but also meet several new characters as well. Mr.Vincent is a true wordsmith who has the ability to bring to life the books he writes, painting such vivid images that it is easy to imagine the scenes unfolding. Even though this book is the second in a series the author provides so much background information that this story can be read as a stand alone work, but I suggest reading the books in order because the series is just that good. I would caution that there is violence and sexual situations in this story, but if that doesn't bother you then you are in for an amazing, horror-filled story that you are not going to want to put down!
