Tiny Bird by Sabrina Edralin is a heartwarming story about facing your fears and confronting self-doubt. Tiny Bird is the smallest of the three siblings. He soon discovers that taking a leap of faith can be frightening when you’re smaller than everyone else. When the day arrives for the little birds to jump out of the nest on their first flight, Tiny Bird watches as his siblings take their first leaps. But fear prevents him from doing the same. His wings are still small. What if they can’t hold him up enough to fly? Tiny Bird is riddled with fear, but with the encouragement and support of his family, he learns how to embrace his confidence, do away with his self-doubt, take a leap, and perhaps even fly.

The illustrations welcome you into the world of Tiny Bird. The softness of the images creates a gentle backdrop to the story, allowing you to feel the safety and security that he feels in his home. This pairs well with Tiny Bird’s journey as he learns to conquer his fear and to discover his bravery. Though the main character is a bird, his fears can be translated in a variety of ways, from disabilities to starting school. Sabrina Edralin creates a universal story that children can easily relate to and garner a sense of empowerment. Tiny Bird finds his courage through the support and encouragement of his family. He finds he isn’t scared anymore, as he only feels love and turns that love into a strength. This is a lovely way to show how this love and understanding can help a child conquer their fears and face an obstacle with courage. Tiny Bird is a sweet story of bravery, self-doubt, and overcoming your fears with support and love from your family.

Tiny Bird by Sabrina Edralin is a children’s picture book for young readers. It addresses issues of fear and overcoming life's obstacles. Tiny Bird is a little bird who hatches out much smaller than his two other siblings. The parents notice right away that Tiny Bird’s size doesn’t begin to compare with the other children, causing them to worry. They console each other, and as time goes by, the young birds learn to fly. The brother and sister have it nailed down and encourage Tiny Bird to take a chance. But he is filled with fear, as the ground is so far below. Will Tiny Bird finally take a chance and fly?

This is a great book. The theme of family support is strongly woven throughout each of the color-filled pages. The artwork is excellent, providing a detailed visual experience that is a pleasure to read. The message, however, is what really shines the most. If life throws a curveball at you, you can prevail, especially if you have family and friends who support you. They help to calm your fears, guide you to focus on the positive things in life, and teach you to believe in yourself. It is likely that without their support, Tiny Bird would not have even tried to fly. Tiny Bird by Sabrina Edralin teaches us that with encouragement and support, we can achieve the things we want and become the people we desire to be. A recommended read.
