In Death by Mistake, a Josiah Reynolds mystery by Abigail Keam, Josiah's world has been shaken to the core after she finds out that her ex-boyfriend, Hunter, is accused of murdering his wife, Kathy. However, it seemed that he might not be guilty of this crime, which sets in motion an avalanche of mysterious discoveries and buried secrets from a whole community in the bluegrass state of Kentucky. With a knack for mystery and investigation, a true sleuth, Josiah reluctantly decides to help Hunter get to the bottom of this murder case and find the truth, while trying to come to terms with her own emotional turmoil.

Josiah Reynolds is the most intriguing character in this murder mystery. Abigail Keam proficiently and effortlessly places Josiah in an environment where she not only grows but also influences other characters and situations simply by her presence, which is wholesome and powerful. I love the fact that she is a strong woman in her fifties, rational yet eccentric, with a wicked sense of humor; a character who sees the world around her in a completely different, more logical way. The way of life that Josiah and the other characters lead is described in detail, but still leaves some space for readers to imagine it for themselves. The combination of mystery, personal relationships, intrigue, and relatability in Death by Mistake is refreshing, fun, and skillfully described. This mix is precisely what propels the storyline in the right direction and creates an atmosphere of mystery and anticipation throughout the entire book. The author’s easy-going, descriptive style of writing makes Death by Mistake a truly compelling title.
