Paper Dolls by Kara R. Hunt tracks a huge collision between historical trauma and a family’s fight for survival. The story follows January Eller, who is navigating a hidden spiritual breakdown months after her daughter, Laynee, accidentally drowns in a backyard swimming pool. Her fragile existence is shattered when an old nemesis from her past slowly resurfaces in her life, launching a coordinated campaign of stalking and intimidation against her home. Jan is pushed into a corner where she has to choose between taking up an illegal firearm for vengeance or turning back to divine protection. With her community facing a forty-day countdown toward an explicit death threat on Christmas Day, she has to confront her past to keep her family alive. Can a fractured household reclaim its inner sanctuary when a dangerous group demands their ultimate destruction?

Kara R. Hunt’s Paper Dolls is a Christian thriller that does a great job of showing how a tight-knit community can really withstand a terrifying wave of spiritual darkness. The writing is very engaging and keeps your heart thumping, weaving the stress of a rocky marriage right into the fast-paced threat of a dangerous cult. What feels so real is the way the author depicts the supporting characters, especially an outspoken church member named Doris, who grabs tactical gear and tracking tech to protect her pastors. The plot delivers a great deal of suspense, helping the story shift from strange neighborhood sightings to a very dramatic, unforgettable wrap-up. Hunt keeps the focus on faith, community support, and family cohesion without ever letting the plot feel cumbersome. It’s the ideal choice for anyone craving a high-stakes story blended with realism.

In Paper Dolls: Unharmed by Kara R. Hunt, you will step directly into the fractured world of Jan Eller. As a pastor’s wife, her life is torn apart when her young daughter drowns. Jan is already struggling through an intense fog of sorrow and deep spiritual doubt. But things get even more intense when Garringer, an old enemy from her youth, suddenly reappears. This dangerous cult leader begins stalking her family, sending Jan into a frightening spiral where she has to confront her trauma while guarding her remaining loved ones. The growing threat forces this heartbroken mother to face a huge decision between pursuing revenge or returning to her faith. Will Jan find a way to defeat this predatory network of darkness and save her family before her peace is wiped out?

Kara R. Hunt’s Paper Dolls: Unharmed is a gripping Christian thriller that delivers a deeply moving exploration of human resilience during times of immense crisis. Hunt builds the central conflict with amazing emotional clarity, blending the deep sorrow of a grieving family with the suspense of an ongoing threat to the community. I thought the secondary characters were excellent, particularly the church friends who jump into action to provide security when the family is most vulnerable. The momentum stays strong all the way through, moving from nerve-wracking tracking sequences to a major standoff in a hidden cave network. By blending a classic survival plot with an honest journey toward spiritual healing, the story delivers a deeply satisfying read about the power of family unity and faith. It’s the perfect recommendation for readers searching for a suspenseful tale with real heart and moral courage.

In Kara R. Hunt’s Paper Dolls, Jan Eller is a pastor’s wife in Habakkuk, Missouri, whose ten-year-old daughter, Laynee, drowned while visiting relatives. More than a year after her death, Jan remains consumed by grief, increasingly distant from her husband, Ted, as their teenage son, Adam, watches his parents drift apart. Her troubled childhood begins haunting her again when disturbing incidents suggest that Garringer, the dangerous cult leader she escaped from at fourteen, has found her. Jan remembers living with her aunt Ginger in a place where sinister religious gatherings exposed her to terrifying supernatural forces. Now, a familiar sense of being watched follows Jan into places that once felt safe, threatening those close to her. As her past intrudes upon her family's present, Jan must confront an enemy determined to reclaim his former victim.

Kara R. Hunt’s Paper Dolls is a brilliant supernatural thriller that brings Jan’s terrifying childhood into her family’s present. The suspense works so well as familiar places begin suggesting someone is watching Jan. That is especially effective when Jan discovers footprints beside her mailbox and photographs them before the rain. Jan is an exceptional main character, and I love how she examines circumstances that seem impossible to explain. Her thoughtful judgments give her role an intellectual pull, as shown when she discusses her anger toward Sheriff Dan Glass with Molly, her childhood friend. The settings have a cinematic quality as the physical details immediately establish scale. Abandoned houses overlook Jan’s neighborhood from the cliffs, while Leviathan’s Field stretches behind seven-foot wrought-iron fencing adorned with Gothic arches. Well written and frightening, readers who enjoy supernatural thrillers will adore this.
