In Deena Undone, a horror story by Debra K. Every, with a rising sense of anxiety, Deena Bartlett was waiting for something to happen as she sat next to her sleeping aunt, Agatha, at Wilshire Rehab Center. During a nightmare, Deena found herself face-to-face with her aunt, who suddenly dropped her jaw and began to spew maggots out of her mouth. Deena heard someone remark, "Ready or not, here I come." Agatha was taking Deena's strength, the person with whom she had the strongest bond, by attaching each of Deena’s senses. Agatha was getting stronger and stronger, and Deena would soon be nothing more than an empty shell once Agatha had attached all five of Deena's senses. Upon learning of her aunt's agreement with the Sensu, Deena had to confront her guilt and her aunt's secrets.
The plot in Deena Undone by Debra K. Every was unique and intriguing. It was a story of a battle against evil, and I was gripped from the first page. It was fast-paced and kept me on the edge of my seat until the end. The book was hard to put down, and I was turning the pages as fast as I could. The characters were authentic and easy to relate to, even those who were not what they appeared to be. My favorite was Deena. She appeared to be weak at first, but when her mind was made up, she was strong enough for her battle. The story was masterfully crafted and a fascinating and easy read. The twists and turns had me guessing until the end.
