Sometimes, when you’ve come home from a stressful day at work, all you really want is to sit back, relax, and read something that makes you laugh. If that sounds familiar to you, then I suggest you pick up Lance Cross’s new book, Diary of a Man Being Driven Around Africa on a Truck with Some Other People. A thoroughly enjoyable read, and one in which you’ll find yourself laughing out loud, the story follows Steven ‘Steve’ Stapleton as he plans to take a trip to Spain to get some time to himself and decide if his girlfriend, Sofia, is truly the woman meant for him. When he finds the tour company’s made a mistake and there’s no longer a spot for him on the luxury trip he’d planned, he agrees to take them up on their offer for a “just as good” five-month trip through Africa. For a guy who probably wouldn’t enjoy even a fairly posh camping trip, a trip in an overland truck through 15 countries in Western Africa might not be the best trip. At least for him. For the reader, it’s a fantastic, fun, and funny adventure that you will enjoy and laugh through from page one.

I loved this book. Lance Cross’ writing style is witty, funny and so entertaining. His character development is fantastic, and even many of the minor characters are as hilarious as Steve. I highly recommend this book to any reader who is looking for a fun read that’s hard to put down and will make you laugh out loud. Diary of a Man Being Driven Around Africa on a Truck with Some Other People is the first book that I’ve read by author Lance Cross, but it certainly won’t be the last. I can’t wait to see what he has in store for us next!
