Kai-Nneka, Soyini Townsend, and A. Xavier Johnson's Different and Amazing is the second children’s picture book in the A-Z of Good Character Series. It sees ZaZa following the sounds of steel drums beating across Sokahland during her walk. She meets some new and amazing friends: Carnival, a colorful parrot who loves to fly high and fast through Sokahland; Turtle, who is the largest leatherback in the world but is smooth, helping him swim fast in the water to catch fish; Hippo, who is told she is large but can use her strong jaws to open coconuts; Skunk, who stinks but uses the smell to keep away dangerous bears; and Tree, who is so tall that everyone can see the beauty of Sokahland from it. ZaZa meets these amazing friends and they are all different. What adventures will Zaza and her friends go on in Sokahland?
Different and Amazing by Kai-Nneka, Soyini Townsend, and A. Xavier Johnson is beautifully illustrated and presents various types of animals and human characters of all kinds. The story identifies some of the many differences that we have; some we may get teased about, but the story shows how to find purpose in those differences to see how they make us special. Different and Amazing brilliantly celebrates diversity and explores the importance of self-love, friendship, and acceptance. This would be a great social and emotional resource to add to any classroom or home bookshelf, reinforcing the importance of acceptance of our uniqueness. Join ZaZa and her friends as they discover what makes Sokahland so Different and Amazing.
