Duck and Friends: The Computer Chase (Volume 2) by Donna Gielow McFarland is a delightfully funny animal tale. McFarland takes us away from the usual talking animal story and into a crazy race to catch a laptop. Cat's computer was running slow so he asks Duck to make it run faster. Duck inserts a thumb drive and that gives the laptop arms and legs. Before long, the laptop is racing away, only to scare off all of Duck's cows.

McFarland takes the reader on a fun journey as the laptop gets around, only to be caught by the alpacas, who are busy using the laptop to shop on eBay. The timing and metering make this a nice story to read aloud, and one that would be enjoyed by preschoolers, kindergarteners, first and second graders, and adults. It's a story that you won't grow weary of reading aloud to a youngster.

McFarland wrote the story so that even if a child has yet to know what eBay is, the concept that it's a shopping website is clear. Added to the unique and clever story are remarkable illustrations. The drawings are amazing and they certainly add to the story. They are well placed and bring out the humor of the plot. The concept of the story is unique. It will leave children (and adults) laughing as the adventurous laptop escapes. Parents and teachers will enjoy the story because it's not simply another talking animal book and the timing is good for reading aloud. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an entertaining children's story.
