Due Process by Jane Finch is a really good book. When Amanda’s lawyer husband gets kidnapped, she thinks it is because of one of his shady clients. It is not until later that she realizes everything could be happening because of her secret past.
Finch drops the reader into the plot from the perspective of Amanda’s daughter, Jenny. Jenny witnesses her father’s kidnapping and is almost abducted herself. Amanda manages to thwart Jenny’s abduction, but is left wondering about the fate of Tony, her husband. The story itself is quite fast paced. A lot happens in what seems to be a short amount of time. The character of Amanda is a strong, likeable woman. I can see her becoming one of my top favorite female characters of all time. I thought Amanda’s secret life was amazing and exciting. In fact, I hope that Finch writes another book detailing everything that happened in Amanda’s secret life. Once the reader sees what happened in Amanda’s secret life, they will be on a roller coaster of suspense that they will not want to get off.
I was hooked from the very first chapter of Due Process. Finch has written many other books, however, Due Process is the first of hers that I have read. I truly enjoyed this story and hope to read more of her work in the future. This book is now making me rethink if I really know the people in my life as well as I think I do. If you like books with a strong female lead, then this one is definitely for you.
