Lynne Howard’s Dylan Dover: Orion’s Quest is an exhilarating second installment in the series. Twelve human years ago, four siblings were born, three boys and a girl, and were separated from each other to ensure none of them ever knew the others existed. There is a prophecy linked to four children, and it may be referring to them. Dylan Dover has just discovered his identity as a warlock with incredible powers and a prophecy that foretold the rise of four siblings destined to make or mar the immortal realm. The warlock brothers, Dylan, Remy, and Seth, together with the wizard Thea and other companions, must locate their fourth sibling, their sister Siri. They use magic to conceal their location while on a perilous journey during which they must confront their growing powers, endure the harsh winter in New York, and explore hidden magical places. However, Baltazar, the powerful vampire who has imprisoned Seth, is determined to reach the siblings at any cost, and his desperation grows as time passes.
Lynne Howard has created a fantasy filled with magic, introducing shapeshifters, wizards, elves, and other magical beings. The characters are well-developed, and each is well-sculpted with fascinating details and qualities. Dylan emerges as a strong leader with growing magic; Remy is resourceful; Seth exudes an innocence shaped by years in captivity; and Thea’s healing powers complement some of their limitations. I found Reus, the enigmatic elf, to be unique in the story and used to build tension. One is not sure whether he belongs with Baltazar or the siblings. There are many spellbinding moments, and I enjoyed the well-crafted scenes, like when Dylan commands a flock of predatory birds. Elements like the dangerous eelesium introduce a layer of intrigue. Dylan Dover: Orion’s Quest features gorgeous prose, a pulsating magical adventure, and a sibling bond that infuses the narrative with humanity. This fast-paced, captivating fantasy will delight with its unforgettable characters, engaging dialogues, and unique storytelling.
