Tommy Morrison, the young son of US diplomat James Morrison, has been kidnapped. James has access to military secrets that the kidnappers want, but he can’t risk these getting into the wrong hands, so he approaches Delia Cahill for her ‘special skills.’ Hotshot lawyer by day and deadly assassin by night, Delia accepts the task. The further she digs into the kidnapping, the more her greatest fears are realized; she feels betrayal is all around her, but who can she trust? She realizes she must go solo and will need to use all her skills to rescue Tommy without losing her own life. Does she succeed and figure out who the mastermind is before it’s too late? Read Edge of Betrayal by Chuck Morgan to find out.
Like every Chuck Morgan thriller, Edge of Betrayal starts with a bang and doesn’t let up until the final sentence. As a seasoned reader of his range of thrillers, I was impressed by the way he can still surprise his audience. The betrayal in the book’s title is certainly a shock. The revelations keep coming, and keep the reader second-guessing everything. Delia is very much like a female James Bond; she’s deeply flawed, and that makes her more endearing to the reader. This book is for a mature audience; there are themes of kidnapping, murder, terrorism, sex, swearing, and violence. Thriller lovers who applaud strong female protagonists will enjoy this book as much as I did. Edge of Betrayal is the second book in the Delia Cahill Thriller series, but can be read as a standalone, as the author references the previous book just enough to allow the story to flow. This is my favorite Chuck Morgan book so far, and I can’t wait to read book three in this series.
