Arman Lance has met Ladia Purnell, the girl from Belvun, during a summer holiday and since then he has lived in hope of reuniting with her again. “I haven’t forgotten who we were. What we meant to each other.” These are words that show how much Arman wants to be with her. He has lost his father while traveling the galaxy with him. Now, Arman joins the Embassy Program with the hope of meeting Ladia. This is his chance and he won’t give it up for anything. But then something, actually someone, comes between him and his obsession. She is Glacia Haverns, who is equally determined to show Arman the giddy joys he’d be missing chasing a girl with whom he just had a fling. Can Arman withstand her charms? Embassy by S. Alex Martin is the first book in the Recovery series.

This is an incredible story of love and loss, of adventure and hope, a beautifully written sci-fi that will take readers into strange and exciting places. I loved the characters. Arman is a lonely character, young and single-minded. The story is told in the first person narrative, and mostly from the point of view of the protagonist in a voice that is clear and absorbing. S. Alex Martin’s writing is excellent and the paragraph breaks are very timely, designed to create powerful dramatic effects for readers. It is evenly paced but exciting and the reader is curious — from the beginning — to follow the protagonist as he chases his dream, excited to find out if he’ll reconnect with the love of his life. Embassy was a delightful read for me.
