A mysteriously open-ended prophecy from the Òrasanue provokes Emneti Mentan Gasadon to the point where he openly challenges the gods of the land in a moment of pure frustration at the turn of events in his life. However, he chooses to ignore the warning signs. Instead, he focuses on his daughter's impending coming of age and the interest that other powerful families in the empire will show toward a potential union. He is unaware that other entities within his sphere of influence have taken an active interest in the young Emnòne’s future. With an old enemy waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike, will the house of Gasadon regret their patriarch's actions? Only time will tell in Seth Halleway’s Embers Of Wrath.
An aging ruler exercising his right to question the wisdom behind the logic of the gods ends up with devastating consequences in the latest installment of Seth Halleway's Shentonia series. The characters are individually brilliant in their compositions, with their different motivations capturing at least one aspect of human nature that is easy to identify with. Mentan's wrangling with Kèlion is reminiscent of the battle for supremacy between religion and the state. At the same time, Genduhi's unusual offer to Tnshanja hints at a subplot critical to the story. Halleway's penchant for a level of attention to detail that borders on perfection results in a well-structured society one will find difficult to believe is fictional, and battle scenes that are so vivid they leave little to the imagination. Embers Of Wrath combines intriguing conversation, realistic political gerrymandering, and the right touch of romance to create a multifaceted, fast-paced novel that is so riveting you will be completely immersed before you realize it.
