Entwined by Error is the first book in the Madcaps of Mayfair series by Angela E. Johnson. Set in Regency-era England, the story follows Myra Astley, a sharp-witted twenty-three-year-old who is determined to dance the waltz with a duke this season at Almack's. Instead, Myra finds herself charmed by the dashing Viscount Southwood. But just as Myra was hoping to become a viscountess, fate intervenes, and a shocking chain of events leads Myra to be married to Southwood's younger brother, Daniel Northcott, instead. Initially, Myra finds Daniel infuriating. However, Daniel's kindness and intelligence slowly win her heart, and the two newlyweds fall in love with each other. Meanwhile, Southwood is in trouble with people he owes money to, and they don't mind visiting Daniel's estate to find him.
Regency romance readers are in for a treat with Entwined by Error. Author Angela E. Johnson does a masterful job of capturing the ambiance of that period in a captivating narrative that you simply can't put down. Whether it's the characters or the engrossing plot, there's so much to love about this novel. Johnson builds on the enemies-to-lovers trope and crafts a take that has you rooting for the protagonists to fall in love. The characters of Myra and Daniel have amazing chemistry. Every scene featuring the two together is laced with tension, drama, or humor. Even the secondary characters are intriguing. Southwood is a compelling troublemaker, whereas Countess Hastings is a delight in every scene she is in. The narrative flows seamlessly, with a fast-paced plot that will keep romance readers absorbed all the way through. Highly recommended.
