If you are looking for a dark psychological thriller flavored with drama, gritty realism, crime, mystery, suspense, and a poignant coming-of-age tale, Every Silent Thing by M. R. Madonna is a must-read. The raw, deliberate prose features a multi-perspective storyline, vivid imagery, and a well-crafted cast. Madonna has a knack for capturing, with incredible clarity, the harsh realities that children and parents in dysfunctional families face, both domestically and socially. All the characters are flawed, and their actions and decisions seem rooted in fear, self-preservation, resentment, love, and psychological instability. Despite the story’s tragic tone, I found some of the interactions between Levi, Doley, and their peers funny. I loved this page-turner.
