Everyone Knows My Name by Cindy Green-Helmer is a cute kids’ picture book about the trials of going to school. Six-year-old Tucker doesn’t want to go to school. He doesn’t know anyone, and he can already write his own name and count, so why does he have to? His mom’s mission is to teach him that school is a fun place to be; after all, his brother loves it, and he will too. Tucker agrees to go, and he’s surprised at how easy it is to make new friends – except he never asks anyone their name. Everyone knows his name, though! Join Tucker as he learns how school is a fun place to be and as he grows in confidence while making tons of new friends, with his mom’s encouragement.
Cindy Green-Helmer’s Everyone Knows My Name is a wonderful, funny story about a kid with low confidence. It has some lovely illustrations by Jeanine Bulleigh and plenty of humor to help young kids relate to it more easily. It’s about learning to be confident, and it will help children navigate the emotional minefield of their first day at school. It’s also a great learning tool for parents, showing them how to be supportive and encouraging as their young ones go through new experiences. The story is told in gentle, easy-to-understand language by a talented writer who clearly understands children and their fears. It’s a great book for parents to read to their kids, but it should also be read at school to help new kids learn to make friends and get along. It’s not just for those starting school for the first time; it will also benefit kids as they transition from grade to grade.
