Burn Fuel Better by Don Owens points out an often overlooked culprit of climate change: Black Carbon, a type of particulate matter and a byproduct of burning fossil fuels. It is more dangerous than carbon dioxide, causes illnesses when inhaled, and coats our ice shelves, causing them to melt. Owens points out that it’s not just big oil companies—every one of us adds to pollution in small ways we barely notice. Think about heating our homes, buying something online, using plastic, or just cooking dinner. We rely on fossil fuels for these conveniences, and that dependence makes stopping climate change tough. Electric cars and renewable energy sources like solar or wind don’t tackle black carbon emissions yet. But in this book, Owens introduces the LeefH2, a hydrogen-based technology that can slash black carbon emissions by up to half and even generate oxygen. He shares how he discovered it, explains how it all works, and makes a strong case for why each of us has a role to play if we want to make a real difference.
Burn Fuel Better not only gives a practical guide on how we can tackle the climate crisis, but it also gives hope to anyone who feels like the world is doomed due to global warming. Don Owens does a great job of explaining where we are failing, but also praises the successes we have made in trying to solve this problem. His narration is conversational, and he has included colorful art and diagrams that make the book engaging. This is not just a science-based book; it also tells the story of oil drilling, the author's journey, and gives a call to action to everyone. The book also celebrates and encourages innovation, something the author often refers to as 'tinkering.' Our curiosity has always helped us and will definitely be the answer to climate change. The book also points out that countries should work together and view climate change like an alien invasion of the entire world. This is a wonderful read that empowers us to actively preserve the planet and achieve the clean and green world that we all hope for.
